WHO ARE WE?

Em Frothingham and Ram Hariharan opened Harmony Ballroom in 2011 because they couldn't find a place in Bellevue to spend the evening dancing, especially with a small child in tow. They love the idea of an old-fashioned dance hall where everyone can go at night to meet friends and family, small children and elders, the whole neighborhood.

Em and Ram teach at the Alternative Argentine Tango Practica on 1st, 3rd, and 5th Friday nights. They emphasize frame, connection, and musicality, so that old and new partners can communicate comfortably and confidently, in time with their favorite music, without saying a word.

Ram has danced tango since 1999, starting with Tony Fan and Ilana Rubin. He paired up with Em in 2005 because she was teaching ballroom dance and had access to a practice studio. Em learned primarily from Eva Lucero and Patricio Touceda. Together, they have also studied with Pablo Veron, Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, Fabian Salas and Lola Diaz, Hsueh-tze Lee, Homer and Cristina Ladas, Brigitta Winkler, Rebecca Shulman, Mario Consiglieri, Eugenia Parrilla, and others. They have been teaching together since 2010.
